Chapter 13 ~ Witchy Woman

Raven hair and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
She's a restless spirit on an endless flight

Witchy Woman ~ The Eagles

University Quad - 1:47PM
"I hope you don't bring all your dates here."

Wyatt took a long pull on his coffee as he watched Gemma uncomfortably settle into her chair. He remained thoughtful as students hurried past them heading to and from classes. "This isn't exactly a date. Besides, mid-terms are going on right now; this seemed like a good place to meet on short notice."

Gemma leaned in, her coffee untouched, and smiled curiously. "Why are you bothering to finish? Do you really think you need a degree to be a rock star? Wyatt you have the world at your fingertips and you are spending four years obtaining something you will never use. With your pedigree doors would open without you so much as lifting a fist to knock."

"There is more to it than performing and tours. The business side is just as important." Wyatt smiled wryly at Gemma before continuing, "I wouldn't want some shifty agent absconding with my hard earned money now would I? At some point I'll want to do it like my dad. Have a studio or a label and give young bands an opportunity."
"But Wyatt you'll get that from Cooper one day. You don't think he would take you into the business as a partner?"

"He has a partner, Slim, and besides I have brothers and sisters that are just as entitled to it as I am. Maybe I'll want to make my own way."

Gemma sat back, smug, studying him as if considering what to say. She finally took a sip of her coffee, grimaced and then shifted her eyes back to Wyatt. "If it is your own label you want, I know people who can help with that. You aren't even signed with Hitman which surprises me. Why would your father fail to insure he has you in the fold I wonder?"

"I'm not worried about it.""You should be. Why should you only have a fifth or even a smaller piece of the pie when you can have a much larger cut someplace else? By the time Cooper and Slim slice the business up among their offspring, and who is to say they will do that, your creative and business control will be severely hindered. You know I represent Brew, it's no secret that Jimmy Breaux is uneducated and yes he has some issues to overcome but his talent is going take him far under my wing."

"So I should let you run my business instead of my father...and I would do that why?"

Gemma grinned broadly. "For a much larger slice of pie Wyatt!"
Laughing, Wyatt stood and offered his hand to Gemma. "I need to get to class."

She held onto his hand longer than he was comfortable with. "Maybe I overstepped a bit, you don't really know me after all. Come to my house for dinner and hear what I have to say? I'm sure your mother would want you to weigh all your options Wyatt. If you don't change your mind you will at least have something to think about. Just call me and we can set something up."

"Sure I can do that. Look I really do need to get going. I'll call you." Wyatt hugged her quickly and took off across the quad.

Millwood - North Lake Drive - 7:28PM

Millwood was a quiet suburb with large oak trees, colorful birches, and fragrant evergreens. Junipers graced the walkways leading to traditional homes that boasted well manicured lush lawns. Nothing much in the way of excitement ever happened in this upper middle class neighborhood their only real claim to fame was the Stanfield family who had lived there since the birth of their son Cooper. The home where the senior Stanfields lived was modest but well kept.

Wyatt stopped by one afternoon to visit his grandparents as he often did whenever he managed some time away from school. Now he was driving slowly through the narrow roads at dusk until he came to the small stucco house where Gemma Wilson lived.
Wyatt had been curious about her since Gemma's visit to the university so he gladly accepted her dinner invitation when she extended it. There were many things he wanted to know about her, about his mother, and about the distance between the cousins. If Julia ever mentioned her, Wyatt could not remember. Time as well as teenage distractions could have caused him to simply forget.
Approaching the front door Wyatt knocked and waited for her to let him in. "You made it! I was worried my directions may not have been too precise." Gemma embraced Wyatt, held him at arm's length and gave him the once-over with her gaze. "I hope you're hungry," she offered as Wyatt stepped into her entry. "I don't cook often so my repertoire is limited but what I can manage to prepare is pretty good."
The evening was warm with a clear evening sky so Gemma served Wyatt at a small table at the rear of the house. A bottle of Merlot, Gemma's favorite, sat open and breathing. Pouring them each a healthy glass they chattered on about Wyatt's school, music, his childhood, and his hopes for the future. "What I really would like to know is why my mother never mentioned you to me. You said you weren't close, why is that?"
Gemma rose and beckoned Wyatt to follow her into the house. Settling on the sofa she sat back as Wyatt settled at the other end. Thick, black lashes fanned against pale skin as she lowered her lids demurely and raised the wine glass to drink. Moistening her lips she leveled her eyes on Wyatt and answered. "My dad and Julia's father did not get along very well. They always competed in everything and had egos the size of Texas. I was a child when my father took us to La Jolla but I remember spending some time with Julia before we moved.
"We were polar opposites. Your mom was always a perfect little lady who was expected to take piano lessons and be proper. I was..." Gemma chuckled softly; it made her look younger, softer but a mischievous sparkle lit up her eyes. "I was incorrigible, definitely not a proper little girl. My mother died shortly after we relocated to California so my father raised me by himself. Having his influence, bringing me into his business endeavors as I got older shaped my future, made me ambitious."
Gemma waved her hand in the air as if she was brushing away at old memories before sliding her shapely legs along the couch and letting them rest on Wyatt's lap and changed topics. "I saw your father the other day at Hitman. He looked surprised to see me and not particularly pleased; I think I may have dredged up a few old memories."

Wyatt wondered what affect Gemma had on his father, what memories her likeness to his mother stirred good or bad. It was hard to gauge considering he walked away from Julia and his marriage. If Cooper had any residual feelings for his mother, would they resurface? In any case, Gemma was nothing like his mother beyond her looks. "Why would you go to see him?"
Her eyes narrowed slightly as if considering whether or not she wanted to answer. "I want him to sign Jimmy Breaux - Brew, have you heard of them? Unfortunately he was not convinced." Gemma wiggled her feet and sighed. "I went out on a very long limb and assured Jimmy of a deal. I'm probably going to lose him and I was counting on that contract to solidify my place in the industry. It isn't easy for a woman in this business - your sister could attest to that I'm sure."

At that moment the furthest thing from his mind was the desire to think about his sister. Wyatt dragged his eyes along the length of her body. Gemma was a very attractive woman. Having her legs resting seductively on his lap was distracting. Wyatt shifted slightly on the couch. "What are you going to do if you lose the deal?"
Sliding her legs under her, Gemma sat up and moved toward Wyatt like a cat toward a chew toy. "I guess I'll have to find another shining star."

Wyatt swallowed hard, amazed at the heat of desire that seemed to rise out of nowhere. He had to be insane. Was it wrong to find a distant cousin attractive particularly when she looked like your dead mother? Wyatt laughed uncomfortably. "Did you have someone in mind?"

"As a matter of fact, I do."

LOL "Witchy Woman" is right! I just adore this - you nailed Wyatt! He kept looking anywhere except at what was being tossed right in his face.

Gemma may not have been able to seduce his father (not yet anyway), but Wyatt is much easier game. Hopefully he's a big enough boy to handle it.

Wonderful writing and absolutely wonderful shots!!!

Gayl June 28, 2010 9:53 AM

That song just popped into my head...hehe. Wyatt is easily distracted. His thought process was interesting...at least he did manage to consider his sanity. It will be fascinating to see how he manages this. He has a lot to lose.

Thank you Beth! For everything.

Qui. June 28, 2010 10:06 AM

Wow! The lengths she'd go to! She is running all through that family!
Wishful thinking, Beth pops up out of nowhere and shut Gemma's ass down! I'kll hand it to her thought! She appears to be quick on her feet when it comes to master plans and she is good at it!

Love it as always!

Gayl June 28, 2010 10:15 AM

Thanks Qui! I doubt that Gemma is through causing trouble. She really is a piece of work, she has a sharp mind and a keen business sense and won't let anything stand in the way of what she wants.

I believe I called her manipulative and Beth reminded me that were she a man that would be called something completely different...entrepreneurial I believe.

Dinuriel June 28, 2010 10:26 AM

Er... do neither Wyatt nor Gemma realize that they're cousins? And especially considering how much she looks like his mother... o_O

Entrepreneurial indeed. Not exactly professional, though. Here's hoping she manages to keep the deal with Jimmy so she doesn't have to move on to Wyatt.

Gayl June 28, 2010 10:36 AM

Van! And here I thought that small fact was going to go unnoticed...

I have never really mentioned the exact relationship of Julia's father and Gemma's but they were not brothers, they were also cousins. So while that puts some familial distance between them it still has a bit of a squick factor to it. And let's talk about the uncanny resemblance to his mother! Oedipus much?

Honestly I struggled with this concept on several levels but ultimately I went for it.

Dinuriel June 28, 2010 10:48 AM

Don't worry too much about it. It does seem in character for Gemma to just go for it, and Wyatt seems to have been caught off-guard. It would make for interesting drama, especially if/when Cooper and/or Cadence find out.

Plus I already wrote about a physical relationship involving twins, so I probably don't have much of a right to talk :P

Gayl June 28, 2010 10:57 AM

You're right Van, Wyatt was not expecting this at all. I doubt he would have jumped right into it but I'm sure Gemma smoothed over the family relationship easily. And he was already finding her charming so to speak...

Yeah it will be interesting to see what happens if/when Coop or Cadie finds out.

S@ndy June 28, 2010 11:00 AM

:o oh oh...
Wyatt is playing with fire!
I do find it odd that he will have that kind to reaction to her when she looks like his dead mother...she is indeed beautiful and quite provocative... she really knows what she got and knows how to use it! I feel sorry for Wyatt, lol seems like he just fell in a spider's web...a witchy-spider, that Gemma is a piece of work!
Fantastic writing, I love the way you described the neighborhood, the threes, I could see myself living there, in a nice quiet place!
lovely shots!

Muzegoddess June 28, 2010 11:16 AM

I knew it! I knew she was trouble the minute I saw her LOL! Seriously though, Gemma is really pushing the envelope here. She's clearly a smart woman, just a shame she seems to be using her physical assets rather than her mental ones.

And what is Wyatt thinking?!! She looks like his mother!! I hope this is a momentary brain fart for him because I know a certain young lady that would not appreciate this scene at all. Cadence where are you? :)

Fabulous update.

Sinclair June 28, 2010 1:59 PM

OMG!!! How you manage to keep the juicy stuff coming is beyond me. Incest! And it fits so well. Playing on that small part in everyone who's ever had a hot cousin whos 3x removed and you think..if we werent cousins lol. Love it.

On a moral stance though if Wyatt does screww Gemma thats kinda gross. She looks like his mother with a dye job. Creepy. Cant wait for more!

Qui. June 28, 2010 3:01 PM

That's the right term for her! I was wondering about the seductive gestures too. That got a real life reaction out of me!

Gayl June 28, 2010 4:28 PM

Sandy: He sure is playing with fire! You know if you think about it, the women that Wyatt has been drawn to, the ones he has really lost his heart to (aside from Bailey) have been very much an image of his mother. Look at Cadence. Black hair, blue eyes, nurturing. The only thing Gemma doesn't have is the nurturing part.

He is older and more mature but he definitely fell into some sort of trap.

Thank you so much S@ndy!!

Muzegoddess: She definitely is trouble. I think it is hard to tell if she is using her body to get what she wants or just wants the physical pleasure. I would like to give Wyatt some credit for not needing to be seduced in order to see an opportunity staring him in the face. He could conceivably be successful with his own label and the right guidance.

I do have to go back to what I said to S@ndy, he seems to gravitate toward girls/women that look like his mom. Cadence will have him drawn and quartered if she finds out about this. It would ruin them.

Thanks so much!

Sinclair: I really did struggle with the idea of Wyatt and Gemma. In another time and place it wouldn't be as weird but it definitely has the juicy factor going on! Thanks so much for reading!

Qui: Which term is that? Witch? Manipulative? Creepy? Perverse? LOL! Truthfully though I was concerned about the reaction here. And this will be a catalyst for some serious drama.

Thank you again!

Phoenix June 29, 2010 3:43 AM

Blah! Their related!! Anyway you slice it that's just gross! But then Gemma is out to get hers so I'm pretty sure a thing like family ties won't bother her any! Hopefully Wyatt will knock her on her butt and walk out of the apartment. Let's not forget Caddie and all the reasons why she didn't want to have a relationship with him. Although I'm pretty sure him being attracted to a relative never crossed her mind! *shudder*

I love the fact that Gemma does go after what she wants though. She's right. It is tough being a woman in a man's world and show business is still that!

Gayl June 29, 2010 10:31 AM

Hey Phoenix! You know I always play it safe when I write so this was certainly a departure. If Cadie finds out they are pretty much over.

Gemma isn't all bad...she is just...different. Very driven to succeed in a man's world.

Thanks Phoenix!!

AtomicSpaceKitty June 29, 2010 1:38 PM

Wow, talk about an Oedipus complex. ;) I'm interested to see what direction you're going to go with this. And, I'm really impressed that Wyatt has set such lofty goals for himself instead of just sitting back and having everything handed to him by his dad.

Gayl June 29, 2010 1:55 PM

Wyatt has thought a great deal about his future. I'm sure that he has taken for granted the fact that he would get a contract from Hitman. But I also know that Wyatt is smart and he knows that his name and his talent will open doors for him regardless. Plus Cooper has never just handed anything to him or to any of his kids.

The tiny seed that Gemma plants about going on his own will start a series of events that will have far-reaching consequences for several people.

And yeah...Oedius much? Thanks so much Kara!

radsims June 29, 2010 3:51 PM

Gemma, Gemma, Gemma. She makes Rayne pre-rehab look positively the picture of stability. She's everywhere where this family are and it's not exactly healthy. Wyatt - she looks like your mother for goodness sake! Get thee to a shrink!

Gayl June 29, 2010 10:11 PM

Gemma is a little out there isn't she...and Wyatt does need a good smack in the head.

Thanks for reading Rad!

~Drew July 2, 2010 9:36 AM

Gemma is a master manipulator in spades, she knows how to play each instrument here, and she pretty much nailed Wyatt. Or will she 'nail' Wyatt? 'Looked at him like a chew toy', pretty much sums it up. Way to play to his vulnerabilities. Witchy woman, indeed. A lot of squirm worthy scenarios here, all fascinating, interesting to see how it plays out~

Gayl July 2, 2010 3:19 PM

Thanks Drew! She definitely is a different animal. Did they or didn't they...I will leave that up to the imagination. Squirm-worthy and fascinating is great!

The Lunar Fox July 2, 2010 11:37 PM

Those last couple of pictures seriously had me stunned. I was all, "No she isn't..." Seriously, even I was enthralled by those legs and those eyes of hers. Ringed with the dark make up, it really makes her eyes stand out.

She's gorgeous and clearly knows how to use it.

Gayl July 3, 2010 7:44 AM

You know Lunar, the eyes have always been a common thread whenever Julia has been part of a story line. About the only thing that Wyatt inherited physically from his mother was her eyes and they have always been the connection to her. I don't know if that makes any sense at all...

Gemma is really lovely if you get past the barracuda personality...
